Juniper Networks today announced a program to discount its EX Series branch offices switches by about 60 percent for new customers trading in old gear from “legacy” suppliers. The offer isn’t open to folks who already own Juniper switches, though it is to Juniper customers of other products, like security, that haven’t yet tried its switches. Read more

Cisco rival Juniper last week demonstrated 100Gbps Ethernet interoperability with a handful of other vendors at the OFC/NFOEC optical networking conference in San Diego. The live demonstration involved Juniper’s T1600 core router with passing 100G traffic back and forth with an optical transport system using two different CFP transceivers conforming to the IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 draft standard. …

Cisco latest Borderless Networks announcement, which included some new low-priced stackable switches, is viewed by some analysts as more of a defensive than offensive move by the company. The price points and modular uplink upgrade capabilities are seen by Oppenheimer & Co. as a response to HP and Juniper, rather than a capability the two competitors would have to respond to. AT&T maintains three suppliers for its IP domain, according to investment firm UBS. In a bulletin this week updating investors on the AT&T “domain” supplier and procurement strategy, the firm believes Cisco, Juniper and Alcatel will all remain as IP vendors to the carrier.  Read more

Juniper set ambitious growth targets at its analyst day this week – targets that surpass Cisco’s 12% to 17% annual growth objectives and undoubtedly rely on stealing market share from its rival. Juniper forecasts revenue growing at about a 20% compounded annual rate over the next 3-5 years, surpassing the 18% CAGR it’s experienced over the past 8 years.  Read more

Cisco and Juniper are taking their router rivalry to Spain next week as they unveil new and acquired products for wireless operators at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This market will be hotly contested by the two router leaders, and others, as the percentage of IP data traffic from mobile devices explodes.  Read more

It’s almost like clockwork. Once word leaked earlier this week that Cisco is prepping an upgrade to its CRS-1 core router to take it to 120G per slot, Juniper this week said it has a new generation of silicon to take its T series core routers to 250G per slot, full duplex. Read more

Cisco is said to be preparing the launch of its next-generation CRS-1 core router. According to a bulletin from Oppenheimer & Co., Cisco over the next month will unveil the MSC120, a 120Gbps per slot upgrade of the 40Gbps per slot, six-year-old CRS-1. Read more

Another Juniper watcher expects the Cisco rival to grab some Ethernet switching market share this year as sales of its EX line of switches ramp up. According to investment firm UBS, Juniper’s EX revenue might grow 50% this year as users select an alternative to Cisco, HP ProCurve/3Com, Avaya/Nortel and everyone else in the market. 
Meanwhile, Juniper’s SRX security gateway is also expected to ramp…
